Jesus Walks to the Trademark Office

Rapper and fashion designer Kanye West filed 17 trademark applications around the YEEZUS brand name last month. Included in West's application were trademarks for cryptocurrencies and NFTs.

According to trademark attorney Josh Gerben, Kanye West's Mascotte Holdings filed 17 trademark applications around the YEEZUS brand name on May 27, 2022. Included in West's application were trademarks for cryptocurrencies and NFTs.

YEEZUS appears to be expanding far beyond crypto. West's trademark filing covers: amusement parks, physical and online retail stores, campaign buttons, fashion, household items, cosmetics.

The trademark filing comes just months after West claimed he hates NFTs and doesn't want to be involved with them.

My focus is on building real products in the real world. Real food. Real clothes. Real shelter. Do not ask me to do a f***ing NFT.
- Kanye West, 3 months before filing for NFT trademarks

Shoe NFTs?

Not much else is known about West's plans for his YEEZUS crypto and NFTs. Perhaps the success of Nike's RTFKT Nike Air Force 1 basketball shoe NFTs, with their 3.5 ETH floor on OpenSea, drew West into the space. Currently, there's no official way to own a pair of Yeezys in the metaverse. You're stuck owning them in real life.
